Michael Derby, U.S. Department of Energy, Wind and Water Power Technologies Office Michael Derby is the Chief Technology Officer for the DOE's Wind Program. Michael directs the research, development and testing portfolio at DOE's national laboratories to address critical technological barriers to wind plant performance, reliability, and maintenance. In his role as CTO Michael provides strategic guidance for the wind program, with a focus on long-term innovation, overseeing the selection of research projects to insure that they have the potential to advance wind plant technology for improved reliability and performance of the national wind energy infrastructure. Michael also guides the development of new and unique testing capabilities necessary to validate and demonstrate key technologies. Mr. Derby has been with the Department of Energy since 2009. Mr. Derby received his B.S in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado and previously worked in the design and testing of fixed wing, rotary wing and space flight hardware at NASA Ames Research Center.
