Christie L. Comunale, Ph.D., CPA, is a Professor of Practice at Stony Brook University, where she has taught since 2013. Before joining Stony Brook, she spent 14 years at LIU Post’s School of Professional Accountancy as a Professor of Accounting. Dr. Comunale is a licensed CPA in New York State and gained audit experience at Coopers & Lybrand in Baltimore, MD. She holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of South Florida, along with an MBA and a BS in Accounting from Loyola University Maryland.

Dr. Comunale is an award-winning researcher specializing in auditor and taxpayer judgment and decision-making, as well as the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit process. Her research has been presented at numerous American Accounting Association conferences and published in leading peer-reviewed journals.

At Stony Brook University, Dr. Comunale teaches undergraduate courses in Financial Accounting and Intermediate Accounting I and II, as well as graduate-level Advanced Accounting. She has received several teaching accolades, including the College of Business Outstanding MBA Instructor Award, the Undergraduate Instructor Award, and the David Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching from Long Island University.

Upon her arrival at Stony Brook University, Dr. Comunale founded the Accounting Society and served as its advisor for 10 years. She then successfully established the Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Chapter at the university and currently serves as faculty advisor for the Kappa Omicron Chapter. Under her leadership, the chapter has earned awards and garnered significant recognition for the university, its College of Business, and its students. In 2017, Dr. Comunale was honored with Stony Brook University’s Faculty Partnership Award for her outstanding service to both the students and the broader professional community. In 2024, she was recognized with the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Service in its inaugural year.

Research: Auditor and taxpayer judgment and decision making, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit process.

Teaching: Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I and II, Advanced Accounting.
