Stony Brook Children's Hospital Receives $125,000 From Bank of America

Gift for hospital expansion matched by anonymous donor totaling $250,000 in donated funds

STONY BROOK, N.Y., MARCH 13, 2014 -- Suffolk County’s only children’s hospital is critical to the health and well-being of Long Island children, but also to Long Island businesses and workers. For this reason, the regional office of Bank of America has donated $125,000 for the expansion of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

“Stony Brook University and the Children’s Hospital are pillars of the Suffolk County community, providing critical services to families throughout the Long Island community,” said Bob Isaksen, Long Island president, Bank of America. “The expansion of the Children’s Hospital will have a greater impact, bringing health and hope to more children.” Ground-breaking for the expansion will begin in April 2014. Combined with matching dollars from an anonymous donor, the Bank of America gift will have a sizeable impact on the $25 million needed to expand the Children’s Hospital.

The newly-expanded hospital will feature a larger pediatric intensive care unit, private family-centric hospital rooms, patient playrooms, and family lounge. Two floors of the newly-expanded hospital will be housed in the new Hospital Pavilion, where Stony Brook’s medical faculty will generate forward-leading pediatric medical research and clinical care.

“Research proves that a family’s presence helps children heal faster and cope better with the stress of being in the hospital,” said Stony Brook Children’s Physician in Chief Dr. Margaret M. McGovern. “The expansion of Stony Brook Children’s will enable us to provide that specialized environment as well as recruit today’s top doctors who are trained to ensure the best possible medical care for our pediatric patients.”
