Jinnette obtained her B.S and M.S in chemistry from York College CUNY & Queens College CUNY. She then went on to pursue her Ph.D. in chemistry from Stony Brook University in the lab of Prof. Peter Tonge. Her primary research interests involve protein functions and how mutations and small molecules alter the dynamics of proteins. Jinnette’s dissertation research was to elucidate the photoactivation mechanism of blue light sensing flavoprotein, a promising optogenetic tool. Currently, Jinnette is doing her post-doctoral training in the lab of Prof. Peter Tonge in the department of chemistry, where she is working on protein degradation assay and studying the kinetics of Mpro SARS-COV2 inhibitors to understand their residence time. Her professional goals are to instruct undergraduates in Chemistry and to motivate students to pursuit a career in the STEM field through education.
