Transfer students may be eligible for specific scholarships geared towards students transferring into Stony Brook University.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship

A limited number of scholarships will be awarded to PTK members with a 3.5 GPA or higher for the fall entry term only, beginning in Fall 2025, who are transferring directly from a 2-year college.

  • New York State Residents will be eligible for $1000 per year award.
  • Out of State Residents will be eligible for $5000 per year award.

Admitted students will need to provide a copy of their PTK certificate by emailing ugprocessing@stonybrook.edu  to be considered.  This scholarship is for domestic students only and is awarded for a maximum of 4 semesters.

Stay on Long Island Initiative (SOLI)

The Stay on Long Island Initiative is a program seeking to ensure that Long Island's brightest and most talented students consider the merits of continuing their education at a Long Island-based college or university.

Stony Brook University entered into an agreement with Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) and Nassau Community College (NCC) to offer students a full in state resident tuition award.  Students who obtain an Associate's Degree at either college with a GPA of 3.75 or higher are eligible to apply.

In the fall semester, one scholarship is awarded to a student from NCC and one scholarship is awarded to a student from each SCCC campus (Ammerman, Grant and Eastern).  In addition, beginning in the Spring 2026, one scholarship will be awarded to a student from the SCCC Ammerman campus.

Students looking to apply should review their college website on the application process specific to each college.
