Transfer Scholarships
Transfer students may be eligible for specific scholarships geared towards students transferring into Stony Brook University.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship
A limited number of scholarships will be awarded to PTK members with a 3.5 GPA or higher for the fall entry term only, beginning in Fall 2025, who are transferring directly from a 2-year college.
- New York State Residents will be eligible for $1000 per year award.
- Out of State Residents will be eligible for $5000 per year award.
Admitted students will need to provide a copy of their PTK certificate by emailing ugprocessing@stonybrook.edu to be considered. This scholarship is for domestic students only and is awarded for a maximum of 4 semesters.
Stay on Long Island Initiative (SOLI)
The Stay on Long Island Initiative is a program seeking to ensure that Long Island's brightest and most talented students consider the merits of continuing their education at a Long Island-based college or university.
Stony Brook University entered into an agreement with Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) and Nassau Community College (NCC) to offer students a full in state resident tuition award. Students who obtain an Associate's Degree at either college with a GPA of 3.75 or higher are eligible to apply.
In the fall semester, one scholarship is awarded to a student from NCC and one scholarship is awarded to a student from each SCCC campus (Ammerman, Grant and Eastern). In addition, beginning in the Spring 2026, one scholarship will be awarded to a student from the SCCC Ammerman campus.

New York State Residents
Residents of New York State attending a state university or college may be eligible for awards from the state. Please visit Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) for all state specific awards that students may apply for at hesc.ny.gov.
