NEA Grants for Arts Projects

The Office of the Vice President for Research invites applications to the NEA Grants for Arts Projects program which supports an expansive range of arts activities to strengthen the nation’s arts and culture ecosystem. Stony Brook University may submit ONE application per calendar year to the program, with limited exceptions.

WHAT DOES IT FUND: Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) provides project-based funding for organizations in the areas of Artist Communities, Arts Education, Dance, Design, Film & Media Arts, Folk & Traditional Arts, Literary Arts, Local Arts Agencies, Museums, Music, Musical Theater, Opera, Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works, Theater, and Visual Arts. Funded activities may include public engagement with the arts and arts education, the integration of the arts with strategies promoting the health and well-being of people and communities, and the improvement of overall capacity and capabilities within the arts sector.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: No restrictions

AWARD:$10,000 to $100,000. 1:1 Cost-share/match required. Sources may include both cash and in-kind. The NEA generally allows a period of performance of up to two years. 

SPONSOR DEADLINE: February 13, 2025 (Part 1 - Submit to Grants.gov); February 19-26, 2025 (Part 2 - Submit to Applicant Portal)

A complete pre-application should comprise of the following:

  • NEA Discipline: Name the NEA discipline for your proposed project
  • Project Description (no more than one page): Describe in plain language the project activities that will take place during the period of performance, and provide information on the curatorial/selection process, artists, creative process, works of art, productions, venues, public or community engagement activities etc.
  • Engagement with Intended Community, Participants & Audience (no more than one paragraph): Describe the intended communities, participants, or audiences involved in the project activities, and how they will benefit.
  • Project Partners & Key Individuals (no more than one page): Include at least one and up to ten key individuals (such as staff, artists, teaching artists, collaborators, consultants, mentors) and/or partner organizations involved in the project.
  • Estimated project budget with justification (no more than one page)
