Enrolling in Direct Deposit

Direct Deposit is the fastest and safest way to receive your refund from the Student Financial Services Office.  Please note that this is for student refunds only and not for payroll direct deposit.

Direct Deposit refunds are typically generated three times a week.  Once a refund is generated an automated communication is sent to your @stonybrook.edu email account and the deposit typically arrives in your designated bank account in two to three business days.

Effective August 5, 2024, student refunds will be handled digitally through JP Morgan Chase. Refund recipients will receive a notification email to their @stonybrook.edu email account from "donotreply@jpmorgan.com" that looks similar to the image on the right. All students, even those who previously set up a Direct Deposit preference through their SOLAR account, will be asked to set up a direct deposit preference and will have five (5) business days to Accept the Refund and enter their preferred bank account information. If a Direct Deposit Account is not set up within five (5) business days, the refund will be issued and mailed to the student as a paper check to the home address in your SOLAR account.

Helpful Tip
Students who are anticipating a refund should consider adding “donotreply@jpmorgan.com” as a trusted sender in their email account as well as designate their @stonybrook.edu email address as “preferred” under their SOLAR ‘Security and Personal Data’ page.
