Mission Statementlogo

Learning a language is a gateway to discovering the cultures of others. It helps individuals become global citizens capable of communicating interculturally, embracing diversity, promoting a more inclusive society, and cultivating a more harmonious global community.

The Language Learning and Research Center (LLRC) has a three-part mission:

  1. To assist and empower language learners and language instructors with the tools, resources, and support they need to achieve their goals.
  2. To initiate collaborations across departments and centers to enrich language curricula with cutting-edge research findings, innovative teaching methods and culturally rich and authentic teaching materials.
  3. To bridge the gap between theory and practice in language learning and teaching by integrating research findings into our language curricula and by engaging language instructors in action research.

Activities

At the LLRC, we provide a platform for language instructors to exchange ideas and resources, organize workshops to share cutting-edge pedagogical research findings, encourage them to undertake action research to develop innovative teaching methods, and collaborate with them to enrich language curricula.

Additionally, we offer language exams - Foreign Language Placement Exam (FLPE) and Challenge Exam - to determine students’ appropriate language course level and accelerate their learning progress, and provide the Commendation in Advanced Language Studies (CALS) to students who have successfully completed advanced language courses.
