U.S. tax returns will be due on April 15th. Below are a number of resources for postdocs
seeking insight on filing taxes, including those on fellowships and those who are
not U.S. citizens. These resources are for informational purposes only and do not
constitute legal or tax advice. For specific advice on your situation, consult a qualified
tax accountant (such as at the Tax Clinics, see below).
GSO Tax Clinics: The SBU Graduate Student Organizations invites grad students and postdocs to a series
of drop-in clinics with a certified tax account all throughout tax season. Typically
held from 10am-12pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays until April 15th, they will also hold
a few special sessions specifically for those covered by tax treaties from India and
China.
2. Join us for the New Postdoc Welcome, March 10, 4pm
New and continuing postdocs are invited to join us on March 10th for our next New
Postdoc Welcome. New postdocs will hear about information and resources specific to
their postdoctoral experiences here at Stony Brook, followed by a reception for all
our postdocs to welcome our newest members.
Food will be served. This event is free.

3.Immigration Resources for International Scholars
Given the changing immigration landscape within the United States due to the recent
presidential executive orders, Stony Brook has put together a series of resources
to support our international scholar community.
Also, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is always available for consultation. Just

1.NRC Research Associateship Programs Postdoc Fellowships, applications open for May

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine sponsors a number of
awards for postdoctoral and senior researchers to do independent research at participating
federal laboratories and affiliated institutions. These awards include generous stipends
ranging from $45,000 – $80,000 per year for recent Ph.D. recipients, and higher for
additional experience. Research opportunities are open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and for some
of the laboratories, foreign nationals.

3.UMBC Biological Sciences Pre-Professoriate Fellowship for candidates committed to
diversity
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County
(UMBC) invites applications for the Natural Sciences Pre-Professoriate Fellowship.
Candidates with research and teaching interests in all areas of Biological Sciences
will be considered. The purpose of the Program is to support promising scholars who
are committed to diversity in academia and prepare those scholars for a possible tenure
track appointment at UMBC upon completion of the two-year appointment period. We are
particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who are members
of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the professoriate.
Each year, Stony Brook is asked to do an accounting of all our postdocs and "non-faculty
researchers" to NSF for their annual Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates. To help us with our data collection, we ask you to complete the Postdoc and Research
Scientist Info Form, where you can, for example, let us know if you're not a postdoc.
