Mobility and Parking Services (MAPS) offers multiple parking options for our Stony Brook University students. With almost 6,000 student parking spaces, a walkable and bike-friendly campus, and SBU Transit, our students have a number of options for budget and convenience.

RESIDENT STUDENT PARKING DETAILS
PARKING ELIGIBILITY: First- and second-year resident students are not permitted to park on campus unless you have been approved for a permit as part of the petition process.
RESIDENT PARKING ZONES:There are six residential zones on Stony Brook's campus. Students will have the option to purchase for the residential zone in which they reside or register for residential satellite.

PETITION PROCESS:
Who can apply: First- and second-year students who feel that they have exceptional needs to register a vehicle for on-campus parking may fill out a petition form. Examples of exceptional need include medical accommodations and students traveling off campus for employment, internship, and training.
How to apply:
- Download the medical or employment verification form
- Complete form
- Log in to parking portal and Click "Order Permit"
- Select Residential Petition and attach signed, completed form
- MAPS will review attached documentation
- If approved, the student will receive notification through email that they may log in and purchase a residential permit.
COMMUTER STUDENT PARKING DETAILS
All students that do not live in campus housing are defined as Commuter Students. Commuter Students are eligible for three types of permits: Commuter Core, Commuter Perimeter, or Commuter Satellite.
